merry christmas y'all

Mr. and Mrs. Claus awaiting some re-gluing.

Apparently, this little girl is me ... blonde ponytail, pink dress and a book ... yup!

I like that this Santa is doing a little jig

My Mom has been busy finding new additions for our holiday decorations ... my favorite is the NOEL candle holders. No photos of any ornaments though ... Baxter thinks glass balls look like tasty treats so they are all put away for this year and only the top half of the tree is decorated ... he still gets presents in his stocking even though he has been naughty (the same presents as Molly, who is always good), because he is very nice and too cute to stay mad at!

Christmas Eve

One of my favorite Christmas traditions is watching "Christmas Past - Vintage Holiday Films" with my Mom. It is the most fun collection of silent Christmas shorts from 1901 - 1925 ... the clothes and toys are exquisite and every story is charming and comes complete with a happy ending ...

home

image via jessica pigza for d*s guest blog

I'm home for the holidays and bubbling over with happiness to be spending my days decorating with my Mom. In fact I am so happy that even not getting the job I was really really hoping for only set me back for a few hours, and the prospect of continued job hunting doesn't seem so bad when it's done by an awesome smelling Christmas tree (no fire, it's 75 degrees here!) and interspersed with scone baking, hanging strings of lights, shopping trips downtown and cuddling with my dogs.

lucky girl

Today I had a job interview (yay!) but the best part of my day was waking up to see this note from Warren pasted across the mirror. He is so amazing. I love him so much, and I am a lucky girl to have him in my life.

Glamorous dresses make me swoon. I love my jeans and t-shirts, but sometimes (ok, a lot) I wish the world was just a little bit fancier.

Betty in Cloudland

I am in love with this piece by Su Blackwell (it is called Betty in Cloudland, how wonderful!). Papercutting is so much fun, but so scary, one slip of the x-acto knife and your done (unless you cheat and use tape!) But my favorite part is the shadows they create. I made a mini blizzard of paper snowflakes this weekend and suspended them from the ceiling with string ... I love watching their shadows move across the wall and if I can find the camera I might post a picture of them later!

from Etsy seller Babetteworld

I. Want. This.

i believe in fairies

From Red Shoes Home Goods via Bliss

"simply just glue or tape to a wall and let the fairy's move in! comes with a little bike and some fairy dust that you park and sprinkle"

How cute is this fairy door? When I was little I used to search for fairies and even hid little notes under rocks and in trees (I read a lot and was a highly imaginative child). Once I found a little cluster of mercury in the bathroom from a broken thermometer and rushed to show my Mom and sister the "fairy dust" I had found (it is so amazing the way it breaks apart and then reforms in perfect spheres) My mom was understandably horrified that I was playing with mercury, but I was just sad that it wasn't magical.

things that make the world go round

Browsing through ali loves curtis I stumbled across her post on UNC-Ashville's collection of old scrapbook pages from Annie Rives Nicholson. I love that girls have been making scrapbooks for ages and the things she lists that make the world go round ... so precious!

(so very happy)

from Studio Mela on Etsy
Warren is coming back today! I decided to stay in the city alone over the holiday, thinking that it might be nice to have the apartment to myself and not have to watch ESPN or Cramer at all ... but it was just really really lonely and homesickness inducing. But today he is here and that makes me so very happy.

wedding fun

via Maquette

I LOVE this wedding invitation by designer Matt Dorfman. It is so much fun! (you have to click on it to read it) Plus I can totally relate to "I am never moving to New York" a few years of long distance and then "I'm moving to New York", but that is beside the point.

I love Sofia Coppola's work and her commercial for Miss Dior Cherie is just so pretty. How fun would it be to float around with a big bunch of balloons?

la la la

The holiday season is upon us! I ventured out into the throngs of people shopping in Soho to pick up a book from McNally Jackson, but while for many this is the first day of shopping, for me the day after Thanksgiving is The First Day of Christmas Music! I am LOVING The Hotel Cafe presents Winter Songs, especially Winter Song by Sara Bareilles and Ingrid Michaelson.

Try, try again

By Cindy at Scherenschitte also check out her etsy shop.

All this job applying can get rather depressing. As my super talented friend Stephanie, who is also job hunting, says, "it's like being rejected on a first date over and over". Here's to trying again!

Dripbook

My search for employment means that I get distracted online ALOT (note frequency of blog postings as of late). Today (thanks facebook ads!) I discovered a site called Dripbook that "offers its worldwide community of professional visual artists the easiest, most stylish way to display, promote and distribute their portfolios online". The image above is by the first artist that I clicked on, Sandra Suy . So pretty! Ok, now back to endless cover letter writing ...

Maile

This is an illustration of my beautiful best friend Maile. I love her and I miss her. This girl is amazingly smart, talented, funny, kind, encouraging and altogether lovely. She LOVES New York, but she lives in Atlanta, so all day as I am walking around the city, I think about her and wish she was here to discover new places and duck into cafes with me. Life is always more fun when she is around.

New York

"New York"
letterpress print "Bird's and Blooms of the 50 States" from dutchdoor on Etsy.

New York, New York, It's a Wonderful Town!

Today I woke up to see a tiny flurry of SNOW! My little southern self was so excited that I had to find a new desktop background for my computer to reflect the winter weather!
Kindred, from Creature Comforts and Decor8 offers darling artist designed backgrounds to download. I picked this polar bear and made my self a cup of cocoa.

I have finally unpacked all my things since arriving on Saturday, and I have also begun to explore the neighborhood on my own (without boys). There is a super yummy tart shop, called Once Upon a Tart, up the street (I highly recommend chocolate and pear) with the most adorable business card. I love things I can play with and this one comes flat, but you pop it out and fold it to recreate the store front!

My apologies for the dismal photo quality. A new camera is on the list for Christmas.

Up Up and Away!

Float Set by Harpy on Flickr Via OhJoy

These balloons. These colors. I love happy pictures.

Betsy-Tacy

image via crunchymeat.blogspot.com

When I was little I adored Betsy-Tacy books. On my wish list for Christmas is a copy of one of the 1940s editions. I love the illustrations and the precious cover designs, as well as the stories. The series began as bedtime stories for the author's daughter and are based on adventures from her own childhood. It makes me miss being a little girl, but being a big girl in her 20s has its own perks too!

Mr. Baxter

Today has been cold and cloudy ... perfect for a nap with this little guy. This picture is of him in his favorite spot, hiding under the coffee table, with a tennis ball he stole from Molly. He is almost too big to fit now and it is hilarious to watch him wiggle his way under. When he is feeling lazy he just pokes his head in and falls asleep, but today he and I spent some quality time on the couch instead.

Packing Light

Bronze horse statue that was my Dad's when he was a kid, wearing a paper flower garland made by me to girly it up! My sister and I gave him a name when we were little but I can't remember it. I will have to ask her if she does.

1930's slip and antique crocheted collar hanging on my closet door. This was the first piece of vintage clothing I ever bought (at 13 with babysitting money) and it is one of my favorite things. My Mom has had the collar forever and gave it to me this summer because I love it so much!

How cute is this little lamb? Another treasure I acquired from my Mom's collection.

Since I am going to be staying with Warren in his pill box tiny room, I'm trying to only pack necessities for the time being. Hopefully I will have a job and my own space soonish so I can bring all the little things I love with me. Until then I will just have to view them on this blog. More to come!

NYC

Photo from Dear Creatures via Three Potato Four

As of next week I will be one of millions of young girls with big dreams living in the city of New York. The next year will be full of challenges and I hope that I am able to face them with grace.

Nueva

I love butterflies. I think they are fascinating and beautiful, and I love their representation of rebirth and renewal (appropriate for Nov. 4th!) This little guy is a drawing from a small art book I am working on that is loosely about my relationship with NYC, my new home 10 days from now! It has been a really cool project as the meaning of the pictoral story has completely changed as I have changed my way of looking at it. When I initially created the drawings, it was because the city made me feel trapped and overwhelmed, but now they seem so full of hope and creation and life and remind me that change is exciting and an opportunity, even if it is at times scary!

fantasia

picture from the Sonia Rykiel fashion show via The Moldy Doily

How amazing would this runway idea be for a wedding? (the dress is awesome but i mean the RUNWAY) I love the look of the whole blossoms in many colors with the petals ... it's dreamy and reminds me of an enchanted garden/fantasia!
